I love to paint ,draw and photograph! Art is my contribution to the world. Beauty, energy ,light, emotion and the magical space between are what I try to represent. That breathtaking moment when the wind and rain pause, and light strikes a cloudy sky- a tiny ray of sunlight illuminates the edge of a leaf, a small berry.
I am so thankful for this opportunity to create almost full time. My studio is filled with tubes of colour, pastels, crayons, brushes and many surfaces on which to experiment. Rich, so blendable oils, vibrant quick drying acrylics, brilliant yet subtle water colours, and luscious pastels abound.
Living in coastal British Columbia is a gift. Mountains, the ocean, parks and forests, gardens and wild life are all around. There is always the possibility of what can be!
Susan was born in Regina Saskatchewan, the eldest child. Moving to the Vancouver area as a young girl provided endless inspiration. Always an art major, Susan did a brief stint at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design, then the Vancouver School of Art. A diploma in Architectural Drafting and then continuing in English and Art History followed. Susan eventually spent seventeen years working in Special Education. Photography and Fibre Arts became the focus of artistic expression at this time. Eventually the call to return to painting was so very loud that in 2003, Susan left the school board and now happily works from her home studio.
Workshops from select professional artists and a great reference library have provided many opportunities to learn and grow as an artist. Susan teaches colour theory and beginners acrylic and pastels. She is an active member of Arts West and the Federation of Canadian Artists.
Susan lives with her husband Gerry and two curious and fun loving Fox Terriers. Camping, canoeing, and photography are enjoyed by all.
